The Salvation Army in Newtown has been reminded how generous the community can be, with people from all walks of life helping support families this Christmas when they needed it most.
The support of local people, workplaces and community organisations made it possible for The Salvation Army to share food, toys, and hope.

• 446 children received Christmas toy vouchers for local stores.
• 234 households received Christmas food vouchers.
• 12 families were supported with baby bundles, which include basics such as baby vests and clothing, moses baskets and toiletries for mum and baby.

Samantha Jones, who leads The Salvation Army Church in Newtown, said:
“As a Christian church and charity, whose motto is ‘Love God, Love others’, we’re grateful for all the support we’ve received through workplaces, churches and other organisations who have helped us to support families when they’ve needed a hand up. We’re especially grateful to all our volunteers who have not only worked hard but made each working day a joy. When love came down this Christmas, Jesus showed love where it was needed most, in forgotten places, at the edges of society, in the lives pushed to the margins.”

Samantha Jones also thanked the Outlaw Motorcycle Group and Newtown Rugby for organising food drives and over the course of the year, 648 households have received a three-day food parcel.
