Wales Set for Week of Sunshine and Rising Temperatures as Heat Builds Across the Country
Wales is set for a predominantly warm and sunny week, with temperatures climbing steadily across all regions before peaking towards the middle of the week.
While Wales is expected to avoid the most extreme temperatures forecast for parts of southern England, forecasters are predicting a prolonged spell of dry, settled weather with many areas enjoying sunshine from Monday through to Friday.
The warmest conditions are expected in South Wales, where temperatures could exceed 30C, while coastal areas in West and North Wales are likely to remain slightly cooler thanks to sea breezes.
South Wales Forecast
South Wales is expected to experience the hottest weather in Wales this week.
Monday will be warm and sunny with temperatures reaching around 26C to 28C across Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend and Swansea. Temperatures will continue to rise on Tuesday, with highs of 29C to 31C possible inland.
The heat is expected to peak on Wednesday and Thursday when parts of the region could see temperatures reaching 31C to 33C. Nights will also remain unusually warm, particularly in urban areas.
By Friday, temperatures should ease slightly, although conditions will remain warm and settled with highs around 27C to 29C.
West Wales Forecast
West Wales will enjoy plenty of sunshine throughout the week, although coastal communities are likely to remain slightly cooler than inland areas.
Temperatures on Monday are expected to reach 22C to 25C across Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring increasing warmth, with inland areas reaching 26C to 29C.
Sea breezes are expected to prevent temperatures reaching the levels seen in South Wales, particularly along the Pembrokeshire coast where conditions will remain more comfortable.
Thursday is likely to be the warmest day of the week, with temperatures widely reaching the high twenties before easing slightly on Friday.
Mid Wales & Marches Forecast
Mid Wales can expect a largely dry and sunny week with temperatures steadily increasing through Wednesday and Thursday.
Highs of 24C to 27C are expected on Monday and Tuesday across Powys and surrounding areas, rising to around 29C or 30C by Wednesday and Thursday.
Rural communities could experience significant temperature differences between day and night, with cooler overnight conditions than those expected in South Wales.
The warm and settled weather should continue into Friday, although temperatures may begin to edge down slightly towards the weekend.
North Wales Forecast
North Wales is also set for a fine week, with plenty of sunshine expected across Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham and Gwynedd.
Monday will see temperatures reaching 23C to 26C, with warmer conditions developing through Tuesday and Wednesday. Inland areas could see highs of 28C to 30C by the middle of the week.
Along the North Wales coast, including Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and Rhyl, temperatures are likely to remain a few degrees lower due to cooling sea breezes.
Eryri (Snowdonia) will also enjoy warm sunshine, although temperatures will be lower at higher elevations.
By Friday, conditions are expected to remain dry and pleasant, with temperatures generally ranging between 24C and 28C across the region.
A Warm Week Ahead
The settled weather will be welcome news for holidaymakers, outdoor events and businesses across Wales, with little rainfall expected throughout the week.
However, health officials are advising people to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest part of the day and check on vulnerable relatives, neighbours and friends.
While temperatures are not expected to reach the exceptional levels forecast in parts of England, much of Wales will experience one of its warmest spells of weather so far this year, with sunshine and above-average temperatures likely to dominate until at least Friday.
