Halls’ £250,000 auction reflects high demand for silver, jewellery and watches
Auctioneers at Halls The Auction House are sailing into the autumn on the crest of a wave, having achieved a fantastic £250,000 silver, jewellery and watches sale result, including commission.
Recording a 90% sale rate, the auction was packed with highlights across all sections, with the highest price of £25,000 going to a boxed 10-ounce Royal Mint gold proof coin marking the 2022 Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, which was consigned by a Herefordshire vendor.
A collection of 28 gold and silver lots produced a £24,000 windfall for a Bridgnorth area vendor.
Highlighting the strength of the gold market, a Victoria Jubilee head £5 coin pendant, sold for £5,000, an 18ct gold Byzantine link chain necklace sold for £4,400, a 9ct gold ingot on chain made £3,400, a USA 20 dollars coin realised £2,700 and a 9ct gold charm bracelet achieved £2,500.

Diamonds also sparkled with £4,600 for an 18ct gold, sapphire and diamond ring, £4,000 for an 18ct white gold and single stone diamond ring and £2,100 for a pair of diamond stud earrings.
The time was right for watches as an 18ct gold open face pocket watch, made in 1894 and presented to H. K. Holland by the captains and officers of the City of Cork Steam Pack, sold for £3,200.
Other leading prices in the section were £2,700 for an 18ct gold hunter pocket watch signed Rotherams, London, £2,400 for a Finer & Nowland 18ct gold open face pocket watch, £2,200 for a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust gentleman’s stainless steel bracelet watch, £2,000 for a 9ct gold open face pocket watch, £1,750 for a West End Watch Co lady’s 18ct gold enamelled bracelet watch and £1,400 for a Waltham 9ct gold hunter pocket watch.

Reflecting the high demand for silver, buyers snapped up a set of Victorian shell and thread pattern silver flatware for £8,500, a large collection of silver flatware for £3,900 and a canteen of cutlery by Mappin & Webb, Sheffield for £3,940.
Other star performers were a carved dendritic agate vide poche (empty pocket) by Frédérick Boucheron which sold for £2,700 and a Victorian silver mounted red cameo glass claret jug which made £1,550.
